Summary/Abstract: The 1980s saw unprecedented globalisation of the neoliberal economy, which resulted in new economic projects aimed at mitigating the negative results of neoliberalism. Such projects included: the social economy, the economy for the common good, economics with a human face and the solidarity economy. It was the solidarity economy that was particularly welcomed in the countries of Latin America, where the popularisation of its rules in the 2010s evoked hopes of establishing a new social, political, axiological, and anthropological reality, an alternative to the one generated by the neoliberal economy. Today, these hopes seem to be disappointed, the solidarity economy seems to be faint in the social space, and the movement itself seems to have been stifled or it has at least stagnated due to some behavioural, institutional and political difficulties that hinder the functioning of solidarity economic entities. The article aims to: outline some of the factors that shaped the specific mentality which facilitated the formulation of these projects; present these ideas; expose their axiological and anthropological assumptions; indicate some of the difficulties that arose during their implementation; and assess the current stage of their implementation.
