Summary/Abstract: The entire world is facing at the moment the pandemic caused by the new virus SARS-CoV-2 which emerged initially in Wuhan, Hubei, China at the end of 2019. In just a few months the outbreak spread all over the world until it was classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization. This unprecedented situation had a profound impact on daily life through the restrictive measures which were imposed in order to limit the spread of the virus. The symptomatology caused by SARS-Cov-2 is mainly respiratory turning into severe acute respiratory syndrome. Regardless of this fact, there is evidence which shows that it affects the mental state too, complications of neurological and psychiatric symptoms being noticed during the viral infection. The rapid transmission from person to person, the absence of general immunity and the limited access to COVID-19 testing led to an increase in the number of the cases and these factors put a significant strain on the health system which was obliged to reduce the services in those cases which were regarded as less urgent. In order to delay the spread of the disease the governments took several measures such as social distancing, school closures and closures of other institutions considered nonessential. All these measures led unintentionally to both physical and mental impairments of those suffering from mental disorders.
