Summary/Abstract: Railways and development of railway infrastructure played a key role in the development of industry in Hrvatsko zagorje region. During the second half of 19th-century railways »took«workers from Hrvatsko zagorje to Zagreb. After the Second World War railways »brought« workers and goods to large industrial complexes in Hrvatsko zagorje. This paper gives a historical and geographical analysis of the development of industry and its location near railway lines. It analyses development, circumstances of stagnation and current state and possibilities of development. Paper will analyze 10 largest industrial complexes in municipalities Gornja Stubica, Konjščina, Bedekovčina, Hum na Sutli i Kumrovec and towns Zabok, Oroslavje i Krapina located by railway lines.
