The fate of the Polish clergy imprisoned in German concentration camps in 1940–1945 using the example of the Missionary Fathers prisoners of Auschwitz and Dachau Concentration Camps

Summary/Abstract: W pracy omówiono następujące zagadnienia: losy księży ze Zgromadzenia Księży Misjonarzy Wincentego a Paulo w Krakowie, aresztowanych 15 lipca 1940 r.; ich pobyt w areszcie na Montelupich w Krakowie, w niemieckich obozach koncentracyjnych Auschwitz i Dachau w latach 1940–1945 i problem KZ-syndromu. Praca powstała na podstawie materiałów znajdujących się w Archiwum Polskiej Prowincji Zgromadzenia Księży Misjonarzy i innych archiwach kościelnych oraz opracowań naukowych. Celem pracy było odtworzenie historii aresztowania oraz osadzenia księży misjonarzy w niemieckich obozach koncentracyjnych, ustalenie listy zamordowanych oraz udokumentowanie losów tych, którzy przeżyli. The paper discusses the following issues: the fate of priests from the Congregation of the Missionary Fathers of Vincent de Paul in Krakow, arrested on July 15, 1940; their detention in Montelupich in Krakow; the German concentration camps Auschwitz and Dachau in 1940–1945; and the problem of the KZ Syndrome. The work was based on materials from the Archives of the Polish Province of the Congregation of Missionaries and other church archives as well as academic research. The aim of the work was to recreate the history of the arrest and imprisonment of missionary priests in German concentration camps, to establish a list of the murdered and to document the fate of those who survived.
