Summary/Abstract: In the late 1950s, the Romanian communist leaders decided to build a necropolis for the remains of prominent figures of the socialist and communist movement. The study focuses on the institutions that coordinated the construction of the monument, the origins of the building materials, the managing staff of the site, the well-known political activists who were buried there. The sources used vary from official archival files of the era, press articles, and testimonies given, after the fall of the regime, by those directly involved in managing the memorial site.
