Summary/Abstract: In this article we show that the Romanian Orthodox spirituality on both sides of the river Prut could manifest itself as a continuous flow, even if the Russian occupation regime tried to prevent this phenomenon. The oppressive presence of Russian aliens led to a regrouping of the Romanian population in Bessarabia around the traditional spiritual values. This helped the Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia survive in difficult times and define it today as a Church of Romanian Orthodoxy within the Romanian Patriarchate. Therefore, the river Prut was never a spiritual border, but rather an axis of Romanian civilization.
