Summary/Abstract: The author defends the thesis that the semantics of the root defines its ability to accept specified word-formational affixes and ipso facto is of decisive importance for the grammatical functions of the (semantic and formal) derivatives of that root. Semantic derivation is understood as a transfer of the basic semantic component of the root to all its derivatives.
