Cycling in Letters by Henryk Sienkiewicz

Summary/Abstract: The article explores the cycling vocabulary and the ways cycling was portrayed in Henryk Sienkiewicz’s letters. The preliminary research reveals that the cycling vocabulary, although not particularly foregrounded in Sienkiewicz’s work, appears both in autobiographical contexts and in his official correspondence (albeit in the latter it is quite rare). In some examples it is noticeable that the writer tends to promote sport, which he considers to play a crucial role both in the individual and social life.
