Summary/Abstract: Employing previous findings concerning similarity and analogy, which are essential in word-formation processes, the author concentrates on several aspects which happen to be important from the synchronic perspective. These include, first of all, the issues of forming words following a specific lexical pattern (the suffixes -gate and -ing in Polish and Russian are discussed as illustrative examples) and systematization, taking into consideration the category of negation, with respect to derivatives with similar semantic values. The author posits that the analysis of the research material highlights the need for investigating other aspects, including those related to the category of similarity viewed from the cross-linguistic and cross-cultural perspectives.
