Summary/Abstract: The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union adopted Directive 2013/36/EU of 26 June 2013 on access to the activity of credit institutions and the prudential supervision of credit institutions and investments firms. The objective of the Directive is to coordinate national provisions concerning access to the activity of credit institutions and investment firms, the modalities for their governance and their supervisory framework. The provisions of the Directive concerns the following: access to the activity of credit institutions and investment firms, supervisory powers and tools for the prudential supervision of these institutions by competent authorities, the prudential supervision of these institutions by competent authorities and publication requirements for competent authorities in the field of prudential regulation and supervision of these institutions. Given the commitment of Serbia to harmonize its legal framework with the EU legislation, to preserve financial stability and the stability of the banking sector of the country, including striving to continuously improve the legal framework for banking operations in accordance with international standards and EU regulations, the importance of this Directive for Serbia is highlighted.
