Summary/Abstract: Sixty years ago a nascent India, led by its Western-educated elite, shrugged off two hundred years of colonialism. Back then, the West needed to be kept at arm’s length, lest it should desire to regain what it had recently lost; today that perception is fast changing. Nehru’s Gandhian-inspired moralistic foreign policy and Fabian-structured economy ensured that it would, for the better part of India’s burgeoning years, hardly see eye to eye with the West.
