THE EFFECT OF CULTURAL FACTORS ON THE SCOPE/VOLUME AND STRUCTURE OF THE VOCABULARY OF DEAF AND HARD-OF-HEARING STUDENTS

Summary/Abstract: The main aim and objective of the research is to determine whether cultural factors, such as: socioeconomic status, level of education of parents, auditory status of parents and conditions of education, influence the vocabulary of deaf and hard-of-hearing students. The sample consisted of 65 hearing-impaired children of elementary school age (grades 3rd to 8th). In accordance with the objectives, hypotheses, sample and analyzed variables, the following was applied in the statistical processing of the collected data: the method of descriptive statistics, variance analysis, discriminant analysis, and regression analysis. Based on the conducted research, we have determined that the socioeconomic status, auditory status of parents, level of education of parents and conditions of education are significant cultural factors for the scope/volume and structure of the vocabulary of the hearing-impaired students.
