Summary/Abstract: Under the new cultural and social patterns of transnational deployment of diasporic communities, individuals belonging to these respective formations develop intricate cultural perspectives. From this angle, to conceive of America as a switching point, rather than an al- desired end of a journey every diasporic individual longs after, is a new perspective brought about by globalization, and diasporic globalization. To re-think the Romanian diaspora from the United States under the new framework of a transborder, of transnational movements of modernity is not an easy endeavor and this paper does not claim to cover all possible points and areas of scrutiny, but merely to open the path towards a most needed fresh perspective in the study of the Romanian diaspora. The motivation behind the research is articulated along two main lines of reasoning: first, the events of ’89 have ushered Romania into the global circuit, opening it to the contexts of late modernity and late capitalism, free transhuman and transcultural flows, as well as factual and virtual connection to the world mediated by cyberspace and the world wide web. Second, the emergence of these phenomena in Romania have called in for a new theoretical framework able to culturally encode the new circumstances and develop a theoretical vocabulary and discourse in tone with the current cultural debates.
