Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the discrepancy between William Morris’s impossible fantasies and noble ambitions of turning the world into a better place with beautifully handmade house objects financially accessible to everyone, the poor included, and the alterity of his initial ideal which was his real contribution to the world of artifacts, namely, extremely expensive textiles, stained glass, furniture and wall paper accessible only to the very few.
