Summary/Abstract: Introduction. Parents of children with Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) experience chronic stress and parental burnout due to the heavy burden of raising a child. A balanced temporal perspective is a personal resource that facilitates coping with burdens and stress. Few publications provide data on the patterns of temporal perspectives in parents of children with ASD. Aim. The aim of the article is to analyse the results of Polish research confirming the specificity of temporal patterns occurring in parents of children with ASD and to show the possibility of using therapy based on the concept of Zimbardo temporal perspectives for the minimization of Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms related to bringing up a child with ASD.Materials and methods. The article is based on the literature data analysis. Results. Based on the analysis, it was found that parents of children with ASD more often than parents of children with Down syndrome (DS) present a non-adaptive pattern of temporal perspectives, which may be a determinant of PTSD. Conclusions. There are arguments that the application of therapeutic interventions implemented in the field of therapy based on the Zimbardo theory may be effective in alleviating stress symptoms and improving the quality of life of parents of children with ASD.
