Summary/Abstract: Important relationships are derived in this publication concerning arbitrary convex quadrilaterals and polygons with an arbitrary number of sides. They generalize the relationships in the triangle from the cosine theorem and the so called co-tangent theorem. The new relationships are named cosine and co-tangent theorems for quadrilaterals and polygons, respectively. Formulae are obtained by them for the area of arbitrary quadrilaterals and some types of polygons which are not known until now. The obtained relationships and the new formulae could be applied to derive various properties of the triangle, the quadrilateral and the polygon. A Carnot theorem for the triangle is generalized as an example.
