Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the basic parameters of ethno-cultural identity of Bulgarian diaspora in Bessarabia. It traces the crucial elements in the process of ethno-political distinction between the Gagauz people and the Bulgarians in the past and nowadays. The analysis of interviews carried out by the author in 1999 and 2000 in Moldova, and the review of previous studies show the peculiarity of a bilingual and bicultural existence, reflected in the everyday practices and holiday rituals, family relations, memory, and identification strategies of the Bulgarian diaspora, all of which suggests the ethno-cultural unity of Bulgarians and Gagauz.
