Summary/Abstract: Political liberalism contains, as we see it, as a first stage, the officialized liberalism, which covers the period 1857-1875. We analyze this stage by emphasizing the general features and the specific elements which individualized this trend. We thus demonstrate the role played by liberalism in Romanian history, underling the fact that, due to its presence and the activity of some liberal personalities, some of the most important achievements were made possible, such as: the Union, Cuza’s reforms, the establishment of the Foreign Sovereign and the 1866 Constitution.
