Summary/Abstract: For more than a decade, several processes that have taken place in the global financial economy, such as declining public use of cash, the growing dynamics of the use of electronic money issued by commercial banks, but also by non-banking intermediaries, the unprecedented proliferation of digital currencies and, in particular, cryptocurrencies, has led many central banks to explore the possibility of issuing their own currencies digitally. First of all, what would be the central banks that are interested in a digital currency, but also a series of questions, such as why a central bank would issue a digital currency, what advantages and what effects would this have, what are the criticisms of issuing such a coin. At the same time, the issuance of a digital currency by central banks would create a serious competitor for commercial banks and the electronic currency they issue. Or maybe the new currency will be complementary to the one issued by commercial banks. Finally, the issuance of a digital currency by central banks raises questions about the solutions chosen for its implementation, will copy the decentralized register (blockchiain) used by cryptocurrencies or, another question, will be remunerated for holding the digital currency issued by central banks, as is the case with electronic currencies issued by commercial banks.
