Summary/Abstract: The text is devoted to the communist repressions that befell five officials of the state administration of the Second Republic, who had held the post of voivodes before 1939. They were: Stanisław Jarecki – deputy voivode and acting voivode of Kielce and voivode of Stanisław, Henryk Józewski – voivode of Volhynia and Łódź, Wacław Kostek-Biernacki – voivode of Nowogródek and Polesie, Kazimierz Świtalski – voivode of Cracow, and Stanisław Twardo – voivode of Warsaw. The article discusses the role their activities played in the interwar period from the point of view of the communist repression apparatus. The paper describes the mechanisms of investigations and indictments, discusses the course of trials, the behaviour of former officials in conditions of imprisonment and the communist authorities’ attitude to attempts to free them. The study is based primarily on archival documentation produced by the communist Ministry of Public Security and structures of the justice apparatus.
