The Circuit Court of Wadowice. The presidents and legal counsels of the Court (1882–1899)

Summary/Abstract: The opening of Circuit Court in Wadowice took place in May 1882 and it constituted collective first tier tribunal for criminal and civil cases and appeal instance for decisions of District Courts. This compilation completes current state of research of the court. The creation of the tribunal in Wadowice was preempted by long term efforts of numerous institutions and individuals. Apart municipal representation of Wadowice, the creation of circuit court was the subject of work in National Sejm in Lviv, with commitment of court and district authorities and representatives of neighboring communes. Consequently, the emperor Franz Josef granted the creation of circuit court in Wadowice. In the following years, the sources for financing court premises were searched for and the talks with Ministry of Justice and authorities of Kraków’s Appeal Court were held. Upon its completion in 1879 by the ordinance of the Minister of Justice Wadowice was granted with new first tier tribunal. The grand opening, following ongoing construction period, took place three years later. With establishing of Circuit Court in Wadowice, the formerly filled court personnel followed. Foremost it consisted of justiciary and office workers. The compilation presents brief biographical notes of the Court Presidents and ruling Counselors at Law since the creation of the tribunal in 1899. In addition, The Law Society of Wadowice was mentioned, without doubt the creation of which followed the establishing of the Tribunal. It was the first professional association of lawyers.
