Summary/Abstract: The question of self is haunting the evolution of our culture. One of its recent forms is that of identity. The disputes around this subject are endless because it is not clear what we are talking about: identities are pledged as signs of belonging under menace. But we do not admit that cultural identities are marked by historicity. Cultural identities are not subject to relativism but to responsibility stemming from their singularity.
