Summary/Abstract: Elżbieta Jabłońska’s unusual performance, Przez żołądek do serca [Through the stomach to the heart] has been regularly held since 1999. The spectators actively participate in the performance, i.e. they actually consume the dishes served up by the artist herself. The apparent obviousness of the project conceals, according to Agata Jakubowska, a perverse truth. Przez żołądek do serca is a popular Polish saying which refers to seduction. On the other hand, the objective is to highlight the culturally encoded housewifely role of women. The persistent smile on the artist’s face seduces and at the same time deceives the participants of the “dining project”. They think that their behaviour is quite usual and are not aware that they are entering a spectacle arranged by the satisfied “lady of the house”.
