Summary/Abstract: The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bukovina was established in June 1850, in Chernivtsi. The management of the Chamber consisted of 10 full members and 5 alternates. Among the actions of the Chamber of Commerce, actions meant to contribute to the economic development of Bukovina, there were: the establishment of technical and agricultural secondary schools and commercial education institutions; conclusion of the trade agreement with the German Customs Union; opening the customs line with Hungary; the abolition of the prohibitive system in the field of trade with neighboring countries; creation of credit and money circulation institutions; the inclusion of the city of Chernivtsi in the European railway network; concluding trade agreements with Russia (in 1860) and Romania (in 1876). Among the leaders of the Chamber there are mentioned the pharmacist Wilhelm von Alth, president between 1850 and 1885, and the chamber architect Andreas Mikulicz, secretary between 1850 and 1877.
