Summary/Abstract: In this article we deal with the way in which the Polish language was preserved in Mihoveni, where the Poles settled from the Rzeszów area, at the end of the 19th century. Elements of speech in the Małopolska region, once spoken by the Polish inhabitants of the village, survived only in a few idiolects and – as in the case of people born and remained in Mihoveni – primarily in common expressions and phrases. In all other spheres of the existence of people of Polish origin in the area, the speech was replaced by the Romanian language. Our presentation proposes an analysis of the causes of the process of rapid disappearance of this Polish language, as well as a description of the current sociolinguistic situation.
