Summary/Abstract: Eugène van Itterbeek knew the works of Emil Cioran inside out, but their attitudes towards life were completely opposite. Van Itterbeek’s view on its good and beautiful aspects were in direct contradiction to Cioran’s pessimism. What they had in common, however, was the recognition of everyday reality as a revelation of the truths of life and the ‘ethics of precision’ as an ethics of writing.
