Summary/Abstract: This article examines the attitude of Morlachs during the insurrections broken out in the Balkans further to the victories gained by Michael the Brave over the Turks. In particular, it dwells upon the participation of Morlachs in the siege of Klis, a fortress of Ottoman Dalmatia which Croats occupied, for a short period, in 1596. The research is based on Italian and Vatican documents whose copies are conserved in the National Archives of Romania. Among them are four letters, transcribed in appendix, concerning the military operations around Klis and the expedition of Croat general Juraj Lenković to help the besieged. On the whole, these documents enable us to draw new conclusions about the history of Balkan Vlachs, from their military role inside the Ottoman state to their often-difficult relations with other Balkan peoples.
