Summary/Abstract: In this article, we intend to analyse S. Rushdie’s vision of East and West, as it results from his homonymous short story collection and briefly compare it to Panait Istrati’s vision of a closer East and a closer West than those depicted and harnessed by Rushdie, focusing on a limited number of Istrati’s writings. Although the two novelists might seem to have similar experiences, being born in the East and having become famous as writers in the Western world, their viewpoints on these geographical and cultural coordinates are consistently different.
