Summary/Abstract: Based on authentic audible data, the comparative study focuses on two weekly meetings in business context within two enterprises in France and Taiwan accordingly. From act of reference, rules of conversation and two specific acts carried by supervisor and subordinate - the directive and the request, the strategies of politeness in a hierarchical interaction in two "discursive communities" are analyzed. Subsequently, we use our findings with concrete linguistic pragmatic examples to cross-examine and enhance the following cultural values: the degree of "implicit of message" for those two "high contest" cultures (Hall, 1976) and the axis of collectivism vs. individualism (Hofstede, idem: Schwartz, 2006).
