Summary/Abstract: This article is a historical and biographical study. It also presents a more general outline of the époque and the milieu in which Marcus Aurelius happened to live. The aim of the paper is to show how the Emperor put to practice his ethical code in his daily life: with its application to himself, to other people and to gods. Also presented in the article are the outcomes of Marcus Aurelius’ thought and the values he worked out as well their influences on his self-perception and his viewing other people and gods. The analysis presented in this article draws upon the Greek text of Meditations by Marcus Aurelius as well as on two Emperor’s bibliographies, composed by Charles Parain and Pierre Grimal. These main sources are complemented with other, numerous studies in the field.
