Summary/Abstract: The paper is devoted to discussing the life and activities of Kazimierz Ślaski during the years 1945-1956. He was one of the first Polish scholars doing research on Western Pomerania after World War II. His career is traced on the basis of numerous archival sources, with special attention to expelling him from the university in Toruń in 1949 and his long lasting attempts to return to a scientific institution, which took place only in 1956, after the change of political situation in Poland.
