Summary/Abstract: This paper addresses Wendy Delorme’s rewriting of norms in her third novel, La Mère, la Sainte et la Putain. In analysing how this rewriting of norms comes about, this paper relies on the concept of performativity. It first portrays the deconstruction of stereotypes by explaining the co-construction of gender and sexuality and then turns to the role of masks in the novel, which allow for a new aesthetics. Finally, it elaborates on the re/birth of the self through a play on references around the symbolic of Swann.
