Summary/Abstract: This paper provides a literary examination of the Irish legend of Saint Brendan of Clonfert through a comparative study of the medieval Latin Navigatio sancti Brendani abbatis from the 10th century, and of the 12th century Anglo-Norman Voyage of Saint Brendan by Benedeit.I mention some formal details of both works and the manuscripts containing them before proceeding to a narrative analysis (by and large the centre of my work), inspired by the narratologies of Greimas and Genette. Furthermore, I have visualised the historical context through the image of Paradise implied in the two respective medieval works.
