Summary/Abstract: The transatlantic relationship is currently facing several challenges posed by both structural factors and divergent views on the future of security architecture. The new era of great power competition (a concept that symbolizes the strategic rivalry between the U.S.A., China, Russia and, possibly, Europe/EU) has the potential to significantly change the global dynamics, including by re-evaluating traditional alliances and forming others, a framework that imposes the need to analyze the impact on transatlantic relations, in general, and on Romania’s security interests. According to the National Strategy for the Defense of the Country (2020- 2024), Romania assumes an increased role abroad for strengthening the transatlantic partnership and ensuring the coherence of NATO-EU action. In the context, this paper aims to analyze the implications on Romania’s national security, derived from the redefinition of the transatlantic relationship and the adaptation processes that are currently taking place at NATO and EU level.
