Summary/Abstract: Based principally on the avvisi from Ragusa (Dubrovnik) – the news that the Ragusan ambassador in Constantinople sent to his government – this article aims to deepen the relations between Cossacks and Romanians during the 17th century, in the context of conflicts among Poland, Russia, and the Ottoman Empire for the supremacy in Eastern Europe. After a short introduction on Cossacks in Romanian chronicles and historiography, the author dwells upon the importance of Ragusan sources for the history of relations between the Danube Carpathian region and Ukraine in early modern times. He then presents and comments five avvisi which are particularly significant for his research. They concern Cossack raids on the shores of the Black Sea, the attitude of Wallachia and Moldavia during the conflicts between Cossacks and Poles, and the participation of Cossacks in the war for the Moldavian throne, at Vasile Lupu’s side.
