On the relationship between picture and word in selected collections of visual poems for children

Summary/Abstract: The article describes the term visual poetry, its forms and development throughout the history of literature and art. It also focuses on different forms of text perception such as non-linearity or hierarchy between each element of word and picture. Based on different hierarchical relationship between word and picture, the paper discusses selected typology of visual poetry (e.g. calligram, constellation, open space in visual poetry). The main aim of the article is the analysis of various forms of relationships between word and picture in the selected collections of visual poems. The analysis depicts the importance of perception of text-picture relationship in areas such as reading, interpretative and graphomotor skills, and visual thinking.
