Summary/Abstract: The motif of home is associated in Etela Farkašová’s prose with the character of a child who never grows up. The developmental, health problem of the child negatively affects relationships in the family and between the parents. The writer focuses on the emotional relationship of the mother and her child. Farkašová deals with a thematized problem firstly from the position of a young mother and secondly from the position of an aged mother. As her literary character physically matures, she highlights in their relationship the mother’s natural existential, social and moral bonding, which, later on, includes also the commitment to and responsibility for the offspring’s future. This marks the central noetic value of the text, that is she is asking herself what will happen to her when her physical presence is no longer actual. The mother must decide how to act to maintain her role and how not to lose her identity. Jana Bodnárová, on the other hand, analyses the concept of home for girl characters of differing age.
