Summary/Abstract: Maria Klonaris and Katerina Thomadaki are Greek artists and art theorists, who make experimental film and multimedia art. With his article, I analyse the reinvestment of the mythical figure of Hermaphrodite, use to move beyond the binary of gender representation in the art installation Mystere I: Hermaphrodite endormi/e, created in 1982. With this study, I try to question the link between the mythical image, artists's images, and the social image of androgyny, and their impact on the choices of the artists.
