Summary/Abstract: As one of the priorities of the European Union, Cohesion Policy targets all EU regions in order to support job creation, business competitiveness, economic growth, sustainable development, and improve citizens’ quality of life. Regional economic development is an important objective of the Government of North Macedonia and an important prerequisite for balanced and sustainable development of the country. Effective and efficient implementation of the policy for balanced regional development will significantly accelerate the integration processes into the European Union and align with its cohesion policy. Since 2007, when the first efforts were initiated, significant progress has been made towards creation of smart, sustainable and inclusive country. Special attention in this paper will be given to the legal and institutional framework and new principles of regional policy in RNM. The paper also will be focused on harmonization of the regional policy with sectoral policies in the county.
