Intention to Quit of the Employees Having Deviant Workplace Behaviors in Lodging Enterprises

Summary/Abstract: Considering the high labor turnover in the tourism sector, where trained human resources are important, minimizing employee intention to quit is important in terms of maintaining and improving the quality of service. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of deviant behaviors on employee intention to quit. The study has tried to determine whether there are deviant workplace behaviors among employees towards the organization and if so, whether these behaviors have any effect on the intention to quit the work. The population of the research is 4- and 5-star hotels in Palandöken Ski Center in Erzurum, one of the successful winter tourism destinations. The sample of the study consists of 171 staff working in hotels operating in the region during the high (winter) season. The findings have been analyzed by means of SPSS(20.0) program. According to the results, a positive and significant relation has been found between deviant workplace behavior and intention to quit. The results of regression analysis conducted in order to determine the structure and direction of the relationship show that, deviant workplace behaviors have an effect on the intention to quit, and organizational deviance that is the one of dimensions of deviant workplace behaviors and also has a higher level of importance than the other dimension.
