Summary/Abstract: This study presents several issues related to medicine and the treatment of diseases from the perspective of the Holy Scripture, of the ancient, medieval and modern civilization. Scripture cannot be associated with any treatise on medicine in the contemporary sense. It gives us certain accounts and data from the history of the Jewish people and the Gentiles with whom they were in contact, highlighting a sum of various kinds of knowledge, medical, technical, astrological and so on. But the primary purpose of the Old Testament history is the theological one, as a “pedagogue” towards Christ. Biblical accounts also refer to other categories of diseases that people were facing at the time, given the level of their contemporary medical knowledge. The subject of sickness and suffering in the Bible is closely related to the nature and origin of evil itself. The ancient European world was also preoccupied with the problems raised by various epidemics, diseases etc. The level of medical knowledge was quite low, from these services, generally, benefiting the wealthy, the dignitaries and the kings. Medicine was also practiced in ancient Egypt, doctors being also priests in the temples of various deities. Medicine in the Middle Ages was not very different from that of ancient times, as Greek medicine was the norm until the 18th century. In the second half of the twentieth century, after the two world wars, medicine entered a new path of research and discovery.
