Construction of the image of the Judeoconvert in the medieval pamphlet "Alborayque" (late 15th century)

Summary/Abstract: In the article I shall demonstrate the way in which the identity of Judeoconvert is constructed at the end of the medieval period in Spain. The medium of this construction is the pamphlet, a minor literary genre, with an important political goal, aimed to portrayal the marginal. The anonymous author of the libel that I analyse, Alborayque, finds in this medium the ideal ground for stigmatization of the Judeoconvert. Due to the popularizing of this libel, begins the real construction of the image of Judeoconvert, and, at the end of the process, of the Spanish imaginary toward the otherness. But how is this Judeoconvert? He is the impure heir of the Jew, because the Jew himself is impure and much more than this. I shall demonstrate that the Judeoconvert is a radical alterity, something that transgresses the category of the humanity and, because of his condition, must be punished and outlawed from the vital space of the humans.
