Summary/Abstract: In this article I am describing the process of writing a script, in which the main character speaks more than one language on the example of my film “The New World”. I am also exemplifying the differences in the translation of the dialogue list, which appeared between professional translator, me and my co-writer, as a result of different interpretations of the film. In the last part I am presenting rules of proper subtitle synchronization, which skillful use can be an effective directing tool. Movie subtitles are an integral and visible part of the footage, which is why they can intensify exhibited emotions or completely disrupt their perception. Thus, an interpreter for a film director should always be as important a collaborator as a cinematographer, actor or art designer.
