Summary/Abstract: This study presents a number of similarities between Greek and Roman deities and the Slavic ones, basing my research as much as possible on the information provided by an etymological analisys, a description of the deity as well as rituals, offerings, sacrifices and celebrations dedicated to the deities. Georges Dumézil in particular has shown how the trifunctional hypothesis penetrates all the societies that stem from proto-Indo-European culture, although each culture went on to develop their divinities further. While this Dumézilian comparative mythology is incorporated to some extent in the social typology used here, it should be noted that this scheme does not apply to all Indo-European cultures. In this paper I will show that some Slavic deities combine the sovereign and the warrior functions, and there is no clear separation between the food-producing class and its attendant deities from the warrior class and its gods.
