Summary/Abstract: This article examines how much growth in cross-border labour mobility the enlarged European Union is likely to experience in the medium to long term, and how great the costs and benefits of the increased migration of workers will prove for both the donor and recipient countries. Though the analysis drafted by the author – an economist – mainly draws on experiences gained since the enlargement of the union to include ten new members in 2004, it also considers what enlargement heralds for the period after the accession of Romania and Bulgaria in January 2007.
