Summary/Abstract: Disability is often seen as “impairment” or “lack” in human body. But that perspective on this matter is rejected by academic society in the west for several decades. The new ideas about disability started appearing since the 70’. Before then it was seen as case of medicine knowledge. The UPIAS manifesto released in 1976 began the new approach, the “social model” of disability. Since then disability was no longer seen only as characteristic of human body but also as the social issue. The academic society has taken this new perspective by creating a new way of reflecting on disability, which they called Disability Studies. This new approach uses the social model to explain disability as social and cultural construct. Disability is no longer matter of the body, it is matter of society.
