Summary/Abstract: The paper shows the changes in the meaning of the word pomocnik (a helper). This lexeme has always existed in the Polish language, but it referred only to people in Old Polish. In later times, it started to be used as the name of plants and the animals that helped the police or disabled people. Now the meaning is much broader. Additionally, the word pomocnik can refer to any object which helps us do something.
