Summary/Abstract: Autism Spectrum Disorders are those complex developmental disorders of a neurobiological, global, pervasive nature that affect the way people communicate and relate to others and the way they understand the world. ASDs are part of the broad spectrum of disabilities, but, unlike all other disabilities, managing and investigating cases with ASD is very demanding and requires a good knowledge from social workers of what is autism and its manifestation in society The need for knowledge is required, given the complexity of this disability that brings to the surface specific behavioral and sensory issues, some times taken to extremes that require a special understanding, approach and intervention from the professionals they come in contact with. Also, autism has a permanent condition, the child/ adult with ASD needs life long assistance, depending on the degree of impairment that the child/ person diagnosed with ASD faces and the stage of the life cycle they are going through; the need may sometimesbe minimal, they may only need social assistance, counseling for a temporary period, or they may need life long assistance. For beneficiaries severely affected by ASD, willneed to benefit of a full package of support from social protection, both services and financial benefits – allowances. However, although autismis a developmental disability, people with autism can still live a normal, happy and fulfilled life by achieving and capitalizing on the special, niche qualities with whichthey have been ennobled.
