Summary/Abstract: After Islamic revolution of Iran in 1979 like everything else in the country foreign policy of Iran also changed and it was not consistent. The foreign policy of Iran towards Afghanistan has been affected by external factors, mostly it was shaped in accordance with reactions to events which happened in Afghanistan. Through literature review this paper aims to shed light on the relationship of Iran and Afghanistan in the post-revolution era and the role of Iran in the peacebuilding process of Afghanistan. Iran’s foreign policy towards Afghanistan was not stable and it was based on the realism perception rather than ideological approach. Due to its national interest and security of its borders Iran’s role in peacebuilding process of Afghanistan had been evaluated in a positive manner. This paper used secondary resources to conduct the research.
