Summary/Abstract: Global digital media seems like a good, accessible, unrestricted asset. The environment in which it manifests, and which sustains its existence, the Internet, is understood, in most contexts, as a permeable, permissive substrate, with a simple and functional role – that of allowing, infallibly, the transmission of information. But it is more than that: it is a buffer zone that often interposes a very restrictive filter to the act of communication. It is, beyond appearances, a sensitive area, in which technological and cultural boundaries effectively segregate, under the guise of indisputable clarity.
